As Connie had been driving west on Hwy 24, an eastbound vehicle was passing and cut it too close; so to avoid a head-on collision, Connie steered to the right over the shoulder, but lost control and rolled the vehicle several times. Both Connie and their youngest granddaughter, 4 yr. old, Allisyn, were thrown from the vehicle. Connie was airlifted to Penrose Main Hospital in Colorado Springs in critical condition and Allisyn was airlifted to Denver’s Children’s Hospital in very critical condition. At first, they did not know if Allisyn was going to make it. The rest of the passengers seemed to be fine, and were transported via ambulance to accompany Allyson.
As of Saturday morning, July 28, Connie has been upgraded to stable condition and is now out of the ICU. She has suffered a broken neck, broken ribs, brain bleed and significant pain. The doctor says her rehab will take about 3 months.
Little Allisyn life's now appears to be out of danger, but she will have a long road of recovery ahead of her. Her lungs were collapsed, her collar bone was broken, and her skull was fractured. She was able to have one of her chest tubes removed yesterday (Friday). Her skull fracture they are worried about. She will have an MRI today to better see it - praying for good results from the MRI.
Stay tuned to this blog for further updates on how Connie and Allisyn are doing.
Also, the family will post needs here as they come up - whether it be coordinating meals, driving, errands, whatever. Steve is in Colorado Springs with Connie and the rest of the family is up in Denver with Allisyn, so you can imagine the strain.
Psalms 34:18 “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
Steve and Connie Johnson, enjoying their grandkids! Allisyn is in the pink dress. |
